Ramona Flowers subspace purse
I’m pretty new at this, and this was my biggest sewing project so far. The piping around the edges got kind of messed up in places, but overall I’m happy with the results.
- Front: Two layers of green denim with heavy interfacing
- Rear and sides: Two layers of green denim with medium interfacing
- Strap: Three layers of green denim
- Star: Blue and black felt
- Hardware: Metal D-rings and snaps
- Lining: Recycled from an awful old shirt
- RFID: EM4102 compatible
have you done this purse all by yourself (and your home-refurbished sewing machine) ?
Yep!
I ended up machine sewing everything with that machine.. which is good, because this material was so thick that hand-sewing was actually super annoying!
There was one spot where I had I think *15* layers of denim that I was sewing through. I think it was for one of the folded seams on the strap, which was already several layers of denim by itself. The sewing machine could handle most of this work, but for some of those more extreme stitches I’d have to help it along occasionally. Usually the failure mode is that the motor starts drawing so much current that it hits the limit on my power supply, the H-bridge starts undervolting, and that makes the motor itself oscillate and put out an annoying squealing noise. But sometimes the belt just skips a tooth instead
